It’s been a while…..

Hello internet,

So I haven’t posted for a while because life blah blah blah. Anyway I though I would share my experiences on what I’ve been playing lately and how I feel about those particular games. So it all started last week when I was at JB Hifi (where I go every time I go shopping pretty much), I saw 3 games I wanted to buy. These three games were Guitar Hero Live, Metal Gear Solid 5 and Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. I always have a guilt complex whenever I spend money on myself as my wife and myself are looking to buy a house in Melbourne (the market is serious fucked). Anyway my wife basically peer pressured me into buying all 3 and $300 later, all 3 were in my possession. So let’s look at each of the games in order of which I played them.

GUITAR HERO LIVE

This one I had the lowest expectations out of the 3 as reviews were a little mixed when researching. The first I noticed was the controller had 6 buttons instead of 5 in 2 rows of 3. I figured that it wouldn’t be that hard to play as you don’t have to stretch those fingers as far. I can tell you that I was serious wrong. I started at casual difficulty and it was easy enough once I understand how it worked and realized that it was a lot more responsive than it used to be in the old controllers due the wireless USB that you plug into the Wii U console (you’can’t blame the sound or control lag anymore). So I went up to regular which would of been the old version of medium I guess and it was alright as well, some songs provided a challenge mainly because I would forget which colour was the top and which was the bottom. Finally I went to advanced which would be hard difficulty and it’s the level at which provides me with an appropriate level of challenge. I tend to 4 or 5 star the songs at that difficulty. When I go to expert however, I can’t even get close to playing the songs consistently well. This is interesting as I used to play expert in the old guitar hero’s quite comfortably, even 100% some songs at that level. So to sum up, I believe that the new guitar hero is harder but it may be due to still getting my head around the new controller (doing solos while switching between up and down is proving to be quite challenging indeed).

METAL GEAR SOLID 5

This one was the one I was most looking forward to, due to the hype surrounding it and I think that’s why I was a little disappointed with it. To me, it plays incredibly similar to MGS4 with slightly nicer graphics. It could be frustrating being very calculating with taking out enemies, only to have them wake up again in a very short period of time. I didn’t feel you benefited a great deal from the stealth approach when taking out a base and found it much easier to lure a few then kill them and move on so I didn’t have to deal with them. It became better once I could get them picked up by air and taken away but they obviously didnt account for all of them. There were times also where I was confused as what to do next as objectives aren’t really well shown in my opinion. I know this sounds a little negative but I still enjoy playing it, however I felt that it didn’t deserve as much hype as the review websites have given it.

ASSASSIN’S CREED: SYNDICATE

This is probably the game I’ve probably got the most involved with. I love the Assassin’s creed formula and enjoy the characters associated with it. However I’ve felt of late that the creed plot’s haven’t been that great (Assassin’s Creed 2 will forever be my fave). So far I’ve liberated two areas and the story is interesting enough to keep me going. I like the level up system. The combat can be frustrating at times as if you’re taking on someone who is even one level higher than you, it will take about 2 minutes to kill one enemy (well it feels like that). I recall one time I got about 60x combo and still hadn’t killed an enemy one level higher and this wasn’t even a boss or leader type enemy. Apart from that, the story flows well and the zipline is a welcome addition to getting around London a lot quicker.

My plan is to finish Assassin Creed Syndicate and then try and 5 star all the advanced songs on Guitar Hero Live. Once that happens I will look into getting deeper into the MGS5 story and hoping that things will become smoother as we go along (like upgrades etc).

Let me know if you’ve played any of those games and what your experiences were with them.

Cheers

Ways to entertain yourself and your guild when trying to recruit for mythics

Hi guys,

It’s been a while since my last post. Been busy with work and honestly the blog wasn’t at the top of my priorities. I want to talk about the constant struggle that I’m sure many guilds have faced this expansion. Clearing heroic content and then you hit a wall. This wall isn’t necessarily a skill wall where you are unable to kill any more mythic bosses because you aren’t good enough to handle said mechanics, I’m talking about the numbers wall where you don’t have enough people to make your way into mythics.

You have probably seen this all the time in trade chat. People recruiting for mythics, then usually straight after, you get 2 or 3 other guilds hit their recruit macro. The issue of course is the reduction of subs means that the pool for recruiting is quite thin. People are always going to choose a guild who has 20 members already over a guild that has say 17 due to the fact that 20 people can raid mythic straight away and there is uncertainty with 17 people. This means that people leave whilst farming the same content again and again and again. So how do you keep people interested whilst waiting for new members?

Here are some things our guild has done to keep members around:

  • Make a guild facebook page – Now this might not appeal to all because you lose your anonymity that the character provides. However it can provide closeness that you would never get online. Some of our guildies have come out of their shells a lot since this page was started. Thanks to Nra for setting it up!

Picture of a blackhand kill on our facebook page 🙂

Play other games outside of WoW- I don’t engage in this as much as some other people in our guild but there are many people in our guild who play Counter strike and hearthstone together outside of WoW. We even had a little Hearthstone tournament for a bit of fun. Unfortunately we have no picture of this happening (awks!).

Start a classic raid team – This has got me excited and has made WoW fun for me again. Since our raid team has issues with getting 20 people we decided that on nights when we either can’t be stuffed farming heroic bosses with the same bosses or people can’t turn up that we would started a level 60 raiding team. Our rules are, put simply, that we can only use stuff from vanilla WoW. When we clear the vanilla raids we are going to level to 70 and clear the burning crusade raids and will continue this until we finish the cata raids.

some of our level 60 toons taking a selfie on the elevator in thunder bluff (I’m the shortie waving)

These are some of the things that our guild is doing to keep WoW interesting for our guild. So what do you do with your guild that keeps you together during these hard times?

Jubei’Thos attacking Gundrak Players on Trade Chat – World of Warcraft

Hi guys,

Just something that’s been on my mind since my home server of Gundrak merged with Jubei’Thos. I’ve made a lot of new friends and new raiding buddies through this merger however there is one thing that bothers me and it’s the constant abuse in trade chat about Gundrak. For those that don’t know World of Warcraft or are not gamers, trade chat is meant to be a place where people advertise various things like guild recruitment, trying to find people for their raids and PVP and any profession services one might need. About half the time it’s filled with people talking about random stuff which is fine, however about 2/3rds of that conversation revolve around how shit Gundrak is.

I did a little experiment in trade chat asking how everyone was this evening and responses I received were:

  • Delete Gundrak
  • Fuck Gundrak
  • Be quiet Gundrak
  • Gundrak is that annoying little brother you keep around to laugh at with your friends
  • Gundrak is the little brother you sell to the strange men behind the church

These comment to be honest are fairly tame compared to what I have experienced in my time.

From the very first moment I logged on when the servers merged, I had a Jubei’Thos player tell me to go fucking die you worthless piece of shit. He then proceeded to say that my mother should die.

So you may ask, what is being done about this?

I have two options:

  • Report for inappropriate language (yes that is how it’s shown in-game)
  • Ignore the person

I chose to put the person on ignore as myself and many players on Gundrak have experienced, Blizzard does not take this kind of behaviour seriously, as many of these people who I have reported and others have been on there the next day with no consequence.

The only ones that are taken seriously are the ones that occur in their forums.

So what can we do about it as a Gundrak community?

The best solution would be to just ignore them and not give them fuel to start their disgusting behaviour. With no fuel there can be no fire. They are looking for that rise out of someone from Gundrak so just report them and move on.

If your on WoW and you have experienced similar issues with mergers I’d love to hear about it!

Cheers

Shammzwow-Gundrak

Hello Internet!

Hi guys,

My name is Shammzwow (well not really but that’s what I’m gonna call myself!). This blog will be dedicated to all information gaming. Games that I plan writing/posting about are PC games, most likely revolving around World of Warcraft. I am a guild leader on the Oceancic server of Gundrak and have been for 2-3 years now. We are a fairly successful raiding guild that usually finishes towards the top on the leader boards despite only raiding for 6-8 hours a week for the last 2-3 years. I plan to also post videos of games too so be on the lookout for them. Most people probably won’t read this since it’s a start up blog but who gives a shit, I’m gonna do it anyway!
